Summer Learning Journey: Week one, Day Two

My House vs Wharepuni

Similarities
- Timber is also used in my home.
- Both buildings have been built for similar purposes.

Differences
- We store food, eat and sleep in the same building unlike the Māori who would sleep in a separate building for the food.
- Ferns and bark are used on the roof of the wharepuni and we use man made materials that are more modern.

  1. Kia ora Greanne,

Super work listing the differences and similarities of your own house and the wharepuni. I like that you have used bullet points to organise your ideas. This makes you ideas clear and easy to read.

I also think it is really interesting that Māori have different buildings which are used for different purposes. I'd love to know more about other Māori buildings and what they are used for. Are you able to find the names of other Māori buildings and what they are used for?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Noho ora mai,
    Emiely :)

  2. Tena koe Greanna,

My name is Megan and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey team who will be commenting on your posts over the summer.

You have done an excellent job comparing and contrasting the wharepuni and your house. I find it interesting that you found out that the roof is made of fern and bark. Did you do extra research to find out this fact? I could imagine with material like fern, a wharepuni would have a number of leaks throughout the winter period. Did you notice any difference between the decorations of the two buildings?

Maybe next time you could share a photo of your house along with the wharepuni so that visitors to your blog can visualise what you are comparing.

Keep up the awesome work Greanne.

    Have a lovely day,
    Megan :)
